Your Action is NEEDED!
The Conservation Easement Incentive Act, H.R. 641 has just been introduced to the U. S. House by Representatives Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Mike Thompson (D-CA). It now goes immediately to a vote in the House Ways and Means Committee! The committee has scheduled a markup of this and other charitable incentives, which include incentives for donations of food to food banks, and provisions for tax-free charitable donations from IRAs for today, February 4.
This legislation is expected to move quickly to the House floor for a vote of the full House, as early as Wednesday, February 11th, most likely packaged with the other charitable provisions.
Making the enhanced tax incentives permanent is critical to the conservation of working lands and to keeping families on the land.
Please call your representative TODAY and ask that they vote FOR the conservation easement incentive, and for the larger charitable incentives package for which it will be a part. The enhanced incentive is identical to that voted on last December. If your representative didn’t vote for those bills, or is a freshman, or you need a refresher, see LTA’s new talking points to get your representative informed and on board.
Call your representatives via the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.
Don’t just leave a message at the front desk–ask to speak with the staffer who handles tax or conservation issues. Introduce yourself or organization and tell them how important this tax incentive is to conservation work in your community.
Tell them how the tax incentive helps family farmers, ranchers, and modest-income landowners protect, conserve and pass on their working lands to future generations conserving important natural resources like WATER for ALL of us!
Please pass along this request to your friends and others who you think might join us in pushing for support for this bill. Thank you ALL for doing your part to raise your voice for land and water conservation. It matters and it makes a difference.
