Great news! The Texas Farm & Ranch Lands Conservation Program (TFRLCP), a state program housed at Texas Parks & Wildlife, Department, is now accepting applications for the purchase of conservation easements.
To qualify, a landowner must partner with a land trust, like TALT, who will submit the application. Applications are scored based on threat of development, water resources protected, and the availability of matching funds. For matching funds, we encourage landowners to also consider applying for the Agricultural Land Easement (ALE) program through the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).
Interested landowners should contact TALT as soon as possible. First step is to complete TALT’s application that will give us the information needed to make application to TFRLCP and ALE. TALT is accepting applications through February 1, 2017.
The 2015 Texas Legislature moved the TFLCP to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and gave it its first appropriation of $2M per biennium. In its first biennium the program awarded $1.9M to 7 projects conserving over 10,000 acres of working lands.
