MISSION

At TALT, we connect land stewards with conservation tools that empower them to enhance and sustain their agricultural legacy.

We keep Texas, Texas for future generations.

Our Mission: Conserve the Texas heritage of agricultural lands, wildlife habitats and natural resources.

Governing Principles

TALT was founded on a set of governing principles. These principles are the ultimate insight into who we are and how we approach conservation. These principles were developed by the Texas Ag Land Trust Steering Committee in 2006 and are re-affirmed annually by the current Board of Directors.

History of the Texas Agricultural Land Trust

Created by landowners for landowners.

Land defines us as Texans. It embodies our frontier spirit, can-do attitude and rugged individualism that centuries later makes us who we are. Concerned that Texas is losing its rural lands faster than any other state in the country, leaders of Texas’ statewide agricultural, wildlife and landowner organizations (TSCRA, TWA, TFB) came together in 2007 to create the Texas Agricultural Land Trust. With a Board of Directors who, as landowners themselves, understand the day-to-day challenges of owning and managing land, TALT continues to promote the conservation of open space, native wildlife habitats, and natural resources of Texas’ private working lands. Created by farmers and ranchers for farmers and ranchers, TALT is proud to play a role in conserving part of Texas’ legacy of wide open spaces.

Strategic Plan

The Texas Agricultural Land Trust Strategic Plan was developed alongside TALT’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board, and was adopted by the organization’s Board of Directors in 2021.

The land trust accreditation seal is a mark of distinction in land conservation. Accredited land trusts meet national quality standards, uphold the public trust and ensure that conservation efforts are permanent.

  • Accredited land trusts have demonstrated their commitment to national quality standards for nonprofit management and land conservation.

  • The accreditation seal provides an assurance of quality and permanence the public can trust.

  • The accreditation program verifies that the land trust has systems in place to keep its promise of permanent land protection.
